Commodore Jennifer Smith and the Members of the Thames River Yacht Club invite you to join us for our traditional and FAMOUS TRY-SEA Regatta

This is a PHRF sanctioned weekend for serious sailors and fun cruisers

We will race three (3) classes (PHRF A, PHRF B and JOG (All)) during two races on Saturday, and one race on Sunday. The PHRF A and PHRF B splits will be determined after all entries have been received Friday evening or early Saturday morning.

Flags will be awarded on Sunday for BEST IN CLASS!!

Itinerary for the weekend is as follows:

  • Friday, July 1, 2011
  • 1800 - Commodore's "Wine & Cheese" Welcome
  • Saturday, July 2, 2011
    • 0900 - Continental Breakfast
    • 0930 - Skipper's Meeting - details of Saturday races
    • 1055 - First Race
    • TBD  - Second Race to follow.  Stay on lake. Start time TBD
    • 1700 - BBQ Dinner
    • 1800 - Revelry and live entertainment
  • Sunday, July 3, 2011
    • 0800 - Continental Breakfast
    • 0830 - Skipper's Meeting
    • 0955 - Third Race - details to be announced at Skipper's Meeting

Amendments to DRYA Sailing Instructions

  • Section 2 Entries is amended to read:
    • "Phrf handicaps for all classes will be those assigned by Essex County PHRF Association”
  • Section 6 Class Flags is amended to read:
    • “Class splits will be determined by registration”
  • Section 7 Identification is amended to read:
    • “Backstay pennants are not required”
    • “Sail number identification on jibs and spinnakers is not required if specified by any boats one design association (ie Melges 24)"
  • Section 8 will be amended by removing:
    • “Refer to the course descriptions and diagrams provided at skippers' meetings”
  • Section 9 Starting will be changed to read:
    • “The warning signals for the first race on Saturday we be 1055 hours and Sunday will be 0955 hours”
  • Section 10 Limit Marks is amended changing:
    • “(buoy with red and green horizontal bands)” to “(a distinguishable protection buoy)”
  • Section 16 Protests will be amended as follows:
    • “A protesting boat shall deliver a written protest to the Race Committee no later than 1.5 hours after the Committee boat reaches the dock after the final race each day.”
    • “Protest hearings will be held at the Thames River Yacht Club after racing has been completed each day”
  • Disregard pages 4 and 5 of DRYA sailing instructions as courses are to be sailed near the “T” mark approximately 2 miles from the mouth of the Thames River and shall use marks designated by the Thames River Yacht Club.
